If you have ever had the feeling that you or the things around you were spinning and moving when there was no movement, you have probably experienced vertigo. This is a fairly common condition that can affect anyone at any time. In fact, 6th season American Idol winner, Jordan Sparks, has suffered from the condition before. This is an odd coincidence as she sings a song entitled “Vertigo,” referring to being dizzy in love. She tweeted, when the actual medical condition vertigo attacked, she felt dizzy whether she was laying down or standing up. It caused her not to be able to sleep for 4 days.
Vertigo is a very common vestibular condition that is related to dizziness and disequilibrium but not the same thing. Family chiropractor have a hard time finding a way to help people with dizziness as it is still a bit of a mystery. They often recommend over-the-counter or prescription medication to focus on individual symptoms. In order to find real relief for vertigo, the underlying cause must be addressed.
The Root Cause of Vertigo
It has been repeatedly seen that vertigo and a misalignment in the bones of the neck go hand in hand. Most people suffering from spinning report some kind of head or neck trauma in their past. Sometimes it is a vehicle accident, a blow to the head while playing sports, or even a trip and fall. It doesn’t take much force to cause the C1 or C2 vertebra to move out of position. Even if the accident occurred many years ago, it is possible the end results are just showing up now. A misalignment in this area of the neck can cause the brainstem to be under stress and send improper signals to the body about its location, leading to spinning.
Here at N8 Upper Cervical, we have been trained to find these misalignments through a series of specialized x-rays and measurements. We then employ a method that is gentle but precise. It helps these bones to move back into place naturally without popping or cracking them. Once corrected, many people see their vertigo improve or go away entirely.
