Fibromyalgia sufferers who are pregnant usually experience worsening of their symptoms. There is no known reason why pregnancy tends to aggravate this condition. Many pregnant fibromyalgia patients report the following symptoms during pregnancy (1)
- Increased nausea/vomiting in the first trimester
- Increased fatigue throughout pregnancy, due to disturbed sleep
- Severe muscle cramping
- Increased tender spot pain depending on the position of the baby
It is encouraged that pregnant fibromyalgia patients seek drugless management for their condition. (2)
How is my neck related to my fibromyalgia pain?
When the top bone in your neck (atlas) misaligns, it creates tension in your spinal cord. Your spinal cord is responsible for sending messages to and from your brain. When there is tension in your spinal cord, the messages are distorted. This can potentially lead to chronic pain, fatigue, and other chronic fatigue symptoms.
Drs. Miguel and Gabriel Flores are trained in upper cervical chiropractic – a gentle, specific type of chiropractic that is aimed at correcting the atlas. Through realignment of the atlas, there is reduced pressure on the spinal cord. This allows for proper messages to be sent to and from the brain. This may lead to a reduction in fibromyalgia symptoms.
Soriano et al. reported a case of a 31-year-old fibromyalgia patient who saw a decrease in her symptoms within 2 months of receiving atlas care. After 5 atlas corrections over the course of 18 months, the patient reported that they no longer needed their medications to manage their symptoms. (3)
